Pavel Otdelnov was born in Dzerzhinsk (Russia) in 1979. He finished an art school in Nizhni Novgorod in 1999, graduated from the Surikov State Art Institute of Moscow in 2005 and two years later completed postgraduate studies at his alma mater. A Moscow Artists Union member, Otdelnov has been exhibiting actively since 1997, going beyond the regional level at that. In 1997 he took part in the Miezdunarodny Plener Malarski project (Slawków, Poland), in 2001 contributed to a charity exhibition organized by the International Non-Governmental Foundation for socio-economic and political studies at the Moscow Museum of Modern Art to support children with leukemia, and to the Arte Padova exhibition (Padua, Italy). That same year Otdelnov held a solo show in Italy. In 2010 he staged another solo show at the Cultural Centre La Quinta del Berro that was followed by still another solo show at the Juana Francés exhibition hall (both in Madrid, Spain) in 2011. To explore the international context of contemporary art, Otdelnov travels a lot, including across Italy (2000, 2001 and 2010), Germany (2002 and 2006), Finland (2003), Spain (2009 and 2011) and the USA (2009). Simultaneously, he actively exhibits in Russia.

Otdelnov’s works are in private collections inside and outside Russia. He has cooperated with the Kovcheg Gallery since 2006, taking part in many of its projects, including the exhibition ‘Personal Acquaintance’ (within the Parallel Programme of the 3rd Moscow Biennale of Contemporary Art) in the autumn of 2009. The Kovcheg Gallery exhibited his works at the international Art.Fair 21 (Cologne, Germany) in 2010. In the autumn of 2011 Otdelnov’s works formed part of the Kovcheg Gallery exposition ‘Between Object and Imagination’, mounted within the Parallel Programme of the 4th Moscow Biennale of Contemporary Art, and were also selected for show at Art.Fair (Cologne, Germany).
